Alas, no house.

Well, my mom decided that in the end she didn't want to spend the money it would take to get the house moved out to the land. She had decided to go for it based on an estimate that turned out to be a 50% less than what it turned out to actually be, so it's certainly an understandable decision. Disappointing, though :-(

Hi Jane. When my Dad retired he took up building foundations for houses that were moved and then hooked them up. (long story) I was around that and helped out.

There's a lot to moving a house and getting it set up on a foundation. It's easy to underestimate, and people often do. Sometimes they even have to disconnect power lines and then hook them back up as the house moves along. Then when you get the house where you want it, there's more expense than people think.

Just a proper installation is oten way more than people realize, plus there's often a lot more wrong with old houses than people think too. It's one thing if you really know what you are doing to sort everything out, and another thing if you don't. I was going to say something but I didn't want to rain on the parade.

Honestly, after working with my Dad on old houses, I told myself I'd never buy an old house if I had options. They just wear out. You might as well build a new one because you will end up rebuilding everything anyway. They make some pretty cool pre-fabs now. That's what I'd look into first.

This still requres a contractor and the same hook up issues. I know this probably isn't what you had in mind but there's lots of different ones out there.

BTW, I broke down and bought a Nikon D60. I really like the perfomance of it.
