I suspect that McCain is a bit of a nutball. Or, at the very least,has major anger control issues - witness his angry "disingenuousness"letter to Obama a while back. And then there's his joke about Chelsea Clinton being ugly because Janet Reno is her Father, told at a fund raising event of some sort...not appropriate behavior, anywhere, but he REALLY should have the sense not to pop off like that in public. It makes me wonder what is wrong with his sense of logic and decorum.
On the plus side, I do appreciate his ability to form consensus and reach across the aisle from side to side.
Bob - it seems that his ability to form consensus and reach across the aisle from side to side comes from his constant flip-flopping on the issues, telling people what they want to hear.

I meant to type "time to time," not side to side - that was a serious typo that changed the meaning of the comment. Specifically, I was thinking of his influence behind the formation of the group of 14 senators that staved off filibusters a while back.
