Lest you read my post from the other day and conclude that the Banyawol area of East Daegu is merely a crumbling relic of days gone by, here are some images of the booming side of Banyawol.

(As you can see, backalley and booming Banyawol coexist - for now)

Apartments and Lotte Plaza are the main booming elements now. In the next 5 years or so, we'll have some non-residential additions.
The land behind my apartment will be a "New Town" with government buildings and a new science high school.
There is going to be some sort of industrial medical complex, as well. I'm not exactly sure, but I think it will be for contructing medical instruments/technologies.
There are also plans to construct a school of pharmocolgy in the area.
All of the huge apartments (well, huge for Korea- maybe 2000 sq. ft?) in my complex are empty now, but I think they were built in anticpation of all these highly educated folks with money eventually moving in the area.
