It's a good day to be a Democrat :-)

I don't really have anything of substance to write.... surely you all know what's happened: The Democrats have taken control of the House and Senate (well, assuming there's no Allen-originating trickery in the next few days), Nancy Pelosi is now Speaker of the House, the abortion ban in South Dakota has been defeated, and Rumsfeld has been sacked. Oh, fraptious day!

I feel like I'm in a wonderful dream. I almost hate to go to sleep. :)

Our district reelected Doc Hastings (the GOP head of the Ethics Committee) but other than that, it was a great day!

The Republicans begged for what they got. But any euphoria for the democrats taking over congress is, in my humble opinion, sadly misplaced.

The Republicans have bad ideas and implement them. The Democrats have few, if any, ideas and what they spew forth is socialist tripe. I am starting to think that the Libertarians are the only party that actually cares any more about personal responsibility, civil liberties, and freedom from the increasingly intrusive Government anymore. Somebody go dig up Reagan.

Going backward is not the answer to the problems we're having with out government today. I agree that the Democrats have few ideas, and that the Republicans have bad ideas, and suggest that a new course is in order. We definitely need an infusion of a strong third-party to avoid the entrenchment and partisanship at the expense of doing what's right for the people that has been so pervasive over the past 20 years.

At least the victory by the Democrats should help mitigate the fear tactics and false patriotism that has been the basis for our foreign and domestic policy under President Bush (Jane's post about the DHS policy of permission to fly on international flights is a key example). The increasingly Fascist Republican Party has had it's wings clipped, and that's something to celebrate..

Who in the hell is Bob! Regan? Maybe, you have forgotten that trickle down economics did not work at doing anything but help to create the huge ass budget deficit that we have today. Besides this, ignorning poverty and claiming victory in the Cold War for yourself when Russian reform had just as much responsibility for ending the Cold War seems to be pretty egotistical. Maybe, you really want to go back to the Cold War. At least then the Soviets took control of the so called "terrorist."

I left a comment this morning, but apparently Blogger is lame. Not as lame as myspace, though.

I do think that the Democrats have some difficult choices to make whenever they take over, but I think they have the possibility of doing some social good, whereas I never thought the Republicans had the possibility of doing any good whatsoever.

I definitely hope that the Democrats will make the most of their mandate (and yes, this time it *is* a mandate, George) - although whether or not they can is definitely up in the air. They've got some tough issues to deal with, for starters, how can we fix the massive fuck-up in Iraq?

But, um, Ronald Reagan? No effing way! Don't even get me started...

See now I have had people tell me "I could never marry a republican" and well, when he is a great guy, i just viewed him as being in need of some enlightenment. gentle. enlightenment.

and it makes for awesome conversations really, talk about enjoying being right all the time. I have too keen argument skills, he is left nekkid in the wind every time.

i love it. don't knock it y'all!
